Terms of Use
These terms cover the FreeCals iOS app. By installing or using it, you agree to them.
The app
FreeCals is free to download and free to use. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no advertising. There is no account and no login: nothing you do in the app is tied to an identity on any server.
Your data
Your diary, meals, weight, goals and settings are stored on your device. No copy is kept anywhere else. Deleting the app deletes this data; export it first from Settings if you want to keep it. The Privacy Policy states exactly what is sent off the device, and when.
AI-assisted features
Some features send what you typed or photographed to a language model and show you its answer: describing a meal or a workout, photographing food, importing a recipe, or asking a question about your own numbers. These answers are estimates. The app labels them as estimates, and you should check anything that matters against a package label or another source before relying on it.
Not medical advice
FreeCals is a tracking tool, not a medical device. Nothing in the app diagnoses, treats or gives advice about any medical condition. Talk to a doctor or a dietitian for that.
Food data and attribution
Packaged product data comes from Open Food Facts, licensed under the Open Database License; product images are CC-BY-SA by their contributors. Generic food data comes from USDA FoodData Central, published by the US Department of Agriculture and in the public domain. FreeCals attributes both in the app.
The software
FreeCals is proprietary software. Copyright (c) 2026 Tim Anthony Alexander, all rights reserved. Installing the app for free grants no rights to its source code.
No warranty
FreeCals is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. There is no guarantee that the app or its backend will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose, and liability for any loss arising from your use of it is excluded to the extent the law allows.
Changes
These terms may change as the app changes. Continuing to use FreeCals after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by German law.
